Trump: NBC, Macy's 'support illegal immigration'

Donald Trump's saga over his remarks about Mexican immigrants continues to unfold.

On Wednesday morning Trump claimed that NBC and Macy's "support illegal immigration" after they decided to cut business ties with the billionaire Republican presidential candidate over his comments.

"I have always said that if you are successful, it is very hard to run for office, specially the office of President. I have also continually stated that I am not beholden to anyone and this includes NBC and Macy's. Clearly, NBC and Macy's support illegal immigration, which is totally detrimental to the fabric of our once great country," Trump said in a statement. "Both Macy's and NBC totally caved at the first sight of potential difficulty with special interest groups who are nothing more than professional agitators, who are not looking out for the people they purport to represent, but only for themselves. It is people they purport to represent but only for themselves. It is people like this that are actually running our country because our leaders are weak and ineffective."

Macy's, which carried a menswear line by Trump, announced they were cutting ties with Trump on Wednesday. NBC and Univision announced last week they would not air Trump's Miss Universe or Miss USA pageants, scheduled for later this month. Trump had already announced he would no longer participate in the show "The Apprentice" on NBC.

During his campaign announcement last month, Trump promised to build a wall that would stop Mexico from dumping "rapists" and criminals on U.S. soil. Trump later accused the media of trying "to distort my comments regarding Mexico and its great people."

On Tuesday, Trump sued Univision for $500 million claiming, among other things, breach of contract and defamation. Univision called the lawsuit "factually false and legally ridiculous."

An NBC spokesperson declined to comment.
